Approximately 7 kilometers distant, in the Paphos district, is the village of Acheleia, southeast of Paphos city. Nearly 35 meters above sea level, to the east of the river Ezousas, also known as the river of Acheleia, is where the settlement is situated. The French word L'Eschelle, which denotes a port, quay, or generally a location where ships are moored, was distorted to give rise to the name of the village. It is situated close to the Paphos International Airport on the Limassol-Paphos route. It has a boundary with the village of Agia Varvara to the northeast.
The 16th-century Agios Georgios church is located close to Acheleia's major road. The church of St. Theodosios, which also has murals, is another church that has been conserved. The Agios Leontios church is in ruins, not far from Acheleia's shore. It appears that the region once had a minor Roman settlement. The Panagia Chrysorrogiatissa image, which is said to have brought the waves, was discovered in Acheleia's Moulia harbor.
