Latsia is an independent municipality in the district of Nicosia. It is located 190 meters above sea level and is 7 kilometers away from Nicosia city. It is separated administratively into three parishes: Agios Eleftherios, Agios Georgios, and the Archangel Michael Refugee Settlement.
According to a popular theory, the name Latsia was derived from the Cypriot words "Latsin" and "Lakkoi," both of which imply little wells. There were numerous wells in the area that were used for irrigation and for watering livestock. Tradition has it that the region was exceptionally fruitful and water-rich. Very close to Latsia there is the GSP stadium, the Nicosia General Hospital and the Athalassa Mental Health Foundation.
