Cyprus comes last for home energy efficiency

Cyprus has recorded the lowest rate of energy efficiency improvements in homes across the European Union, according to recent data from Eurostat.

The report shows that in 2023, only 25.5% of the EU population aged 16 and above resided in homes that had seen energy efficiency upgrades within the past five years. However, those at risk of poverty or social exclusion were less likely to benefit from these improvements, with just 17.8% of this group living in more energy-efficient housing, compared to 27.5% of individuals not at risk.

Among EU nations, Estonia (47.8%), the Netherlands (45.1%), and Lithuania (32.5%) had the highest rates of energy efficiency enhancements for those at risk of poverty or social exclusion. In contrast, Cyprus recorded the lowest rate at 5.0%, followed by Malta at 6.7% and Italy at 6.9%.

These findings highlight the significant disparities in energy efficiency improvements across the EU, particularly in countries like Cyprus where progress remains slow.
