The district of Paphos, with a currently permanent population of 35,961 residents (World Population Review), is one of the six provinces of Cyprus. It is located in the western part of the island in the place where, according to Greek Mythology, the Goddess Aphrodite was born. It borders to the northeast with Nicosia District and to the southeast with Limassol District. The tourism and land development sectors are currently the main economic activities of Paphos. The spectacular development of the district had begun in the early 80s.
Many rich residences, decorated with impressive mosaics, belong to this period of the 2nd century BC. and have been excavated in the area. The most impressive example of architecture in the city are the Tombs of the Kings, which reflect the wealth and high level of art of the Hellenistic Period. In 1980 Paphos was also in-scripted in the World Heritage List.
The Akamas peninsula which belongs to Paphos’ district is one of the most beautiful natural attractions that Cyprus has. It is an incredibly beautiful area where you will see wonderful natural landscapes, such as the Avaka gorge, the Baths of Adonis and the white sand beach of Lara - where at certain times of the year the turtles hatch their eggs, as well as the crystal-clear waters of Blue Lagoon. The port of Paphos is an ancient port of Cyprus, with the largest archaeological site adjacent to the port and together with the “Poseidonos Avenue” are wonderful for a walk next to the sea or coffee and food while enjoying the view and the passersby. In this archaeological site, the Paphos Lighthouse is also located a short distance away. The ancient port complex, like its modern counterpart, was located on the leeward side of the Paphos cape.
