Latchi port set for major upgrade and expansion

The Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) has proposed a major upgrade and expansion of the port of Latchi to increase its capacity from around 350 to over 500 vessels, including fishing and recreational boats. The project, with an estimated cost of €41.5 million funded entirely by the CPA, includes new breakwaters, dredging, quays, and the creation of additional land for future port facilities.

The expansion plan focuses on extending the port basin to the north and east, adding 186 new berths for private pleasure boats while the existing basin continues serving local fishermen and tourist vessels. The project also includes port infrastructure such as water and electricity connections, liquid waste collection, fuelling points, rainwater drainage, sewage, firefighting systems, and lighting, along with river estuary management.

The new land areas will host future buildings for administrative services, recreational spaces, and retail units, with a total planned area of 4,500 square meters. The design ensures safe docking throughout the year, addresses archaeological considerations, and is planned for a 50-year lifespan. Public consultation on the environmental and ecological assessments is open until February 7.
