The Larnaca District Self-Governance Organisation (EOAL) is making big strides toward sustainability by investing over €770,000 in renewable energy. Most of this funding — about €710,000 — came from the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, while the rest was covered by EOAL’s own resources. These investments focus mainly on installing solar panels (photovoltaic systems) across different facilities to reduce energy costs and become more self-sufficient.

So far, 12 locations — including water pumping stations, a wastewater treatment plant, and technical offices — have been equipped with solar systems generating a total of 832 KW. The savings from these projects are already significant, with €273,000 saved in 2024 and an estimated €374,000 expected in 2025. EOAL is also expanding its efforts, upgrading systems to double capacity at the wastewater treatment plant and adding new installations at its central offices.

The organisation isn’t stopping there — it’s currently studying the possibility of adding even more solar panels across its infrastructure. All these steps highlight EOAL’s commitment to a cleaner, more energy-efficient future for the Larnaca district.
