Omodos is situated in the territory of the wine-producing villages in the district of Limassol, 42 kilometers to the northwest of Limassol. It is situated at an average elevation of 810 meters close to the west bank of the Cha-potami river. The "Afames" and "Kremmos of Laona" are the tallest mountaintops that surround the settlement. The settlements of Mandria in the northeast and Vasa Koilaniou, as well as Malia in the southwest, are connected to Omodos. The village was most likely established during the end of the Byzantine era or the start of the Frank Domination era.
Omodos has long been known for its excellent grapes and delectable wines. The outstanding quality and sweet wine “Afames” is said to have gotten its name from the mountain that is east of the settlement and is named the same.
