Kofinou is a village in the district of Larnaca, about 24 kilometers southwest of the city of Larnaca. It is built at an average altitude of 150 meters. Yogurt production is the only industrial activity taking place in the village. Regarding transportation, Kofinou is situated close to the previous Nicosia-Limassol road. It has a connection to the community of Menogeia in the northeast, and via it, to the city of Larnaca and Alaminos village in the southeast. The village is also connected to the major urban areas of Nicosia and Limassol by the new Nicosia-Limassol Road, which runs fairly near to the west of Kofinou. The village has presently 1,372 residents (World Population Review).
Kofinou existed at least from the Frankish period and is marked on old maps as Cophinia, Cofinia, and even Copno. In the area of the village there are also remains that testify to its habitation during the Neolithic era. The name of the village is believed to have originated from a nearby coffin-shaped hill. An ancient church that predominates in the village was constructed in the 11th century and is known as the "Panayia of Kofinou." It was constructed on the remains of a larger basilica that predominated the same village in the early centuries of Christianity.
