Lemithou is a village in the district of Limassol, located on a mountain close to Prodromos in the Marathasa valley. It is 65 kilometers away from the city of Limassol, situated 1200 meters above sea level, and it is considered one of the tallest settlements in Cyprus. Since Lemithou is positioned at a lush green valley of Troodos between mountain peaks, it provides a spectacular panorama of wild vegetation with different kind of trees such as fruit trees.
It seems that the village has existed since the Middle Ages. According to some historians, it existed throughout the Frankish era. One of the most striking specimens of architecture in the area is the Leventis family residence. It is now operating as a museum, and from its balcony you can see all the way to Paphos. Lemithou has also an established commercial school since 1912 and nowadays it is used as a secondary school. This school provided, and is continuing to provide education to children and young people that are living in Limassol’s Mountain districts. What is more, the village is home to an arts center with a publishing house. The institute is known as Parakentro, and houses a recording studio that is diverse and popular.
The landscape around the village offers a wonderful hiking trail which is named CYTA station – Prodromos Forestry College Route. Anyone who walks this trail, will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the valley.
