Located 18 kilometers east of Limassol city, 72 kilometers southwest of Nicosia, 56 kilometers west of Larnaca, and 84 kilometers east of Paphos, Pyrgos is a settlement in the Limassol district. The community currently has 1,407 residents (World Population Review) and was constructed at an altitude of 480 meters. It has a rich history and plenty of archeological discoveries are found here.
The village is very developed in the tourist sector, due to its stunning beachfront, which includes one of the island’s best-kept marinas, as well as a five-star hotel is present nearby. For locals and visitors who wish to enjoy swims, the immaculately clean beach with the distinctive "sand flowers" becomes a center of interest.
Pyrgos has existed throughout history, for a very long time, as evidenced by the discovery of a copper production workshop during excavations. The name of the community, which was the same as during the Middle Ages, was inspired by a tower, which is a structure from Byzantine times.
The village’s principal church, Panagia Pyrgotissa, is situated near the entrance and is a single-aisled basilica made of stone with arches. Hence, the community holds a major festival every year on August 15th, because it is the day Panagia is celebrated and honored, and a lot of people arrive in the village to do so. In addition to taking in the sights and swimming in the sea, residents of Pyrgos can also unwind in the community park, and sample the delicious local cuisine at the many taverns and restaurants.
