Long-awaited Deryneia–Sotira road officially completed

A major new road link connecting the areas of Deryneia and Sotira has officially been completed, marking an important infrastructure upgrade for the wider Famagusta District region. The long-awaited project is expected to improve daily travel, strengthen connectivity between communities and enhance road safety for residents and visitors alike.

The development includes upgrades to key sections of the road network, as well as improvements to surrounding roads. New pavements, cycling paths, pedestrian crossings, raised junctions, upgraded lighting and underground utility systems have been introduced to create safer and more accessible travel conditions. Modern stormwater infrastructure was also incorporated to better manage heavy rainfall and improve resilience in the area.

Beyond easing transport links, the project also includes environmental features designed to support the surrounding landscape, including water retention measures aimed at protecting nearby natural areas. The upgraded route is expected to contribute to smoother traffic flow, safer mobility for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists, and stronger development opportunities for the region.
