Nicosia takes its place on the map of innovative European cities

Nicosia is proud that it has joined the group of innovative European cities. With the launch of the "Development of Smart City Infrastructure and Systems" project, the city is taking a significant step toward smart and sustainable urban development.

President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized Nicosia's commitment to smart and sustainable urban development as he announced the city's inclusion on the map of innovative European cities.

President Christodoulides announced the launch of the "Development of Smart City Infrastructure and Systems" initiative under the "THALIA 2021-2027" framework. He emphasized Cyprus's size as a unique advantage in attaining a green and digital Europe rapidly.

Through the co-financed "THALIA 2021-2027" project, Nicosia has already developed successful "smart" solutions, securing €6.5 million to become a "Smart City."

Building the necessary infrastructure for a range of smart systems that will benefit the city and its citizens is the main goal of the project.

Along with the announcement of a €35 million allocation for digital reforms from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, President Christodoulides also announced a current competition for a "smart city platform" that will include initiatives such as smart parking, smart lighting, and smart dog management.

According to him, "Technology opens up incredible possibilities, and through urban planning, we can continually transform our cities for the betterment of our citizens." Nicosia's actions establish it as a front-runner among creative cities in Europe.
