One in ten homes now have photovoltaic systems

According to Energy Minister George Papanastasiou, solar energy use is increasing throughout Cyprus, with one in ten homes now having photovoltaic systems installed. The "Photovoltaics for All" project's pending applications will soon be evaluated, which is a big step forward for sustainable energy projects.

Minister Papanastasiou declared that the assessment of more than five thousand applications would start in April with the goal of granting prospective homeowners pre-approvals. He seemed sure that the installations could be finished in time for summer to ensure maximum sunlight utilisation.

The minister expressed enthusiasm for the project and mentioned that over 100 installers were involved in the "Photovoltaics for All" project. He anticipates a seamless implementation process.

Additionally, Minister Papanastasiou emphasised the enhancements made to administrative protocols with the goal of accelerating service procurement at the Ministry of Energy. With this effort, project development will be facilitated by streamlining the evaluation and response to requests.

The minister also highlighted the Cyprus Electricity Authority's (AHK) reduced timeframe for system connections, which is three weeks on average, with even faster response times in particular regions.

Minister Papanastasiou emphasised that ten percent of residences already have photovoltaic systems, demonstrating the public's rising interest in using renewable energy sources. The ministry is seeing a good movement towards sustainable energy practices, as seen by the approximately 1500 applications it gets each month for system connections.

With 53,000 linked systems, the country currently produces 250 megawatts of power, which takes Cyprus closer to the renewable energy objectives it established with the European Commission.

With an eye towards the future, Minister Papanastasiou announced plans for a second phase of the "Photovoltaics for All" project, guaranteeing ongoing assistance to fulfil everyone's energy needs and promote the production of renewable energy in Cyprus.
