Recycling kiosks coming to rural areas

The Environment Department has announced plans to roll out 50 'green kiosks' across rural regions stretching from Nicosia to Famagusta. The goal of these kiosks is to encourage sustainability and increase recycling in our lovely rural area.

The Environment Department recently announced that an agreement had been reached with Mesogeios Digital to initiate the 'Green Pavilion' project. This ambitious project will cost a substantial €3,274,000 and take a good 25 months to complete.

So, what exactly are these green kiosks? The project's creators, who are from the National Technical University of Athens, say that these kiosks resemble little recycling centres. They're made specifically to make recycling items easy to sort.

Paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and metal are just a few of the recyclable materials that these convenient kiosks would gladly take. But there's more! Additionally, reusable items like toys, CDs, books, clothes, and shoes can be dropped off by the public.

However, when will these kiosks be operational? Work has begun and should be finished by the first half of 2026.
