A new network of meteorological stations is being developed across Cyprus to support smarter and more sustainable farming practices. The initiative, part of a broader regional project, aims to improve water management and strengthen agricultural resilience by providing accurate, real-time environmental data tailored to local conditions.

Ten stations are being installed in key rural areas, including Evrychou, Saittas, Athalassa, Vavatsinia, Tochni, Xylotymbou, Achna, Kiti, Achelia and Argaka. These locations were selected to reflect a wide range of microclimates, from coastal to mountainous regions, allowing for more precise monitoring of weather patterns and agricultural conditions.

The data collected will feed into a digital platform designed to help farmers make informed decisions on irrigation and crop management. By improving access to reliable information, the system aims to reduce water waste, enhance productivity and support long-term sustainability in the agricultural sector. The project also contributes to broader efforts to adapt farming practices to changing environmental conditions and promote more resilient rural communities.
